(Washington) Iowa’s good to excellent corn condition rating took a significant hit this week after a devastating wind storm flattened cornfields impacting one-third of the state’s crop.
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds says 13 million acres of corn is lost, which is about one-third of the state’s cropland. The damage certainly reflected in Iowa’s corn crop rating. As of Sunday, August 16, the state’s good-to-excellent rating dropped to 59-percent good-to-excellent, a 10-percent decline from the previous week.
U.S. good-to-excellent corn condition rating dropped two-percent to 69-percent. Soybean good-to-excellent rating came in at 72-percent, down from 74-percent the previous week.
Corn in the dough stage reached 76-percent, and corn dented came in at 23-percent. Soybeans blooming reached 96-percent and 84-percent of the nation’s soybean crop is setting pods.
