(Atlantic) Atlantic Schools Superintendent Steve Barber reached out to parents, students, and staff via a video late last week, outlining the return-to-learn plan for the school district. Barber says the past five months have been unprecedented and filled with uncertainty. He says the concern and frustration of many are undoubtedly understandable as they look to open the school facilities on August 24.
During the planning process, the Atlantic Community School District used the term onsite learning, which means school will open on August 24 as they typically do in the fall. The district incorporated a lot of mitigation strategies and other practices to aid in a safe opening and learning environment, and for some of the students and families with health issues will be served remotely. The school district recently received 350 computers, which means every student will have a computer in their hands. Starting on Monday, school principals will reach out to families and students taught remotely.
Barber says many of the teachers received technology training over the summer, and this Wednesday, the entire staff will receive the same technology tools to ensure they have the ability and skills to serve students onsite or remotely.
Barber says one of the district safety measures is to not have the typical open house the week before the first day of classes. This year the teaching staff will produce a short welcoming video sent out to students in their classroom.
Barber says the district will continue to provide additional information to families to inform them of all of the school district’s plans. For questions or concerns, contact Mr. Barber at any time at sbarber@atlanticiaschools.org., or 243-4252.
