(Anita) Passing will be the name of the game for the CAM volleyball team as they work to get ready for the upcoming season.
Coach Jenna Maiers has only a few to replace from last year. She outlines their top focus during preseason practices. “We are really trying to get into our passing. I don’t have a whole lot sketched out as far as passing since we didn’t have many open gyms.
The team brings back a lot of their production in a lot of different areas. “Maddy McKee, she’ll be a junior for us this year, she led us in a lot of ways with a lot of kills last year. She really came out on fire especially at the end of the season for us. I’m looking forward to seeing some stuff out of her. Taylor Bower is a senior this year so I’m looking for some good leadership out of her as a setter running the show up there. Mallarie Peach really started to hit her stride at the end of last season and I’m seeing some fun things out of her. I’m really excited about those three.”
Like many teams, the team is eager to return to action and be able to have a season. “The first couple of weeks that we were allowed to have some open gyms we didn’t really focus on conditioning, we just kind of focused on some skills and having fun again and feeling normal. Now we’ve had camp and we’ve done some really fun drills. The gym has been loud and the girls have been laughing and smiling. It feels really good to get back to something kind of normal.”
Coach Maiers admits it’ll take some time to put everyone in the right spot and determine what will work best for the team.
