(Oakland) Ben Schroder appears to be in for a big year for Riverside Cross Country. The Bulldogs have some shoes to fill in their lineup from last year, but one of their top runners is back.
Ben Schroder has had a strong career so far and the goal this year is to get to state. Coach Alex Oliver says, “I’m looking forward to a big season for Ben Schroder. The last three years he’s been a starter in our lineup. He’s been running a bunch this summer and I’m looking forward to him having a successful year.”
Conner Stevens and Clayton Spies are also returning for coach Alex Oliver’s team. “We have a couple younger guys that are going to try and fill out the lineup. They had success in junior high. I’m looking forward to seeing where they are at.”
Riverside is not quite as deep among their girls team. “Cailee Manzer will be a senior for me. Katie Messerschmidt and Stormy Noble are returners and then some younger girls that had success in junior high also.”
The offseason was impacted by COVID, but they were able to hold some workouts once July rolled around. “Once we got the all clear we started up our running club and got some runs in. We had a decent crowd throughout the summer.”
