(Des Moines) Governor Kim Reynolds announced at her press conference today that the state coronavirus website now includes the county-by-county 14-day average positivity rate for school districts.
Reynolds said they will continue to work with school districts, counties and local public health to make sure that when they’re doing the contact tracing and looking at the context behind those numbers they’re providing them the information they need to make important decisions.
More information is available at coronavirus.iowa.gov.
Reynolds also noted today, more than 500,000 Iowans have been tested for COVID-19 for a per-capita rate of 1 in 6 Iowans. The all-time positivity rate was 9.3 percent, which means nearly 91 percent have tested negative; a total of more than 452,000 Iowans. So far this week, the statewide positivity rate is down to 6.5 percent from last week’s average of 8 percent. Reynolds said they are monitoring this closely to see if the trend continues.
Reynolds also mentioned that there was a slight decrease in the numbers of individuals tested. She said that is not the result of any capacity or supply issues through Test Iowa or the State Hygienic lab.
Reynolds said soon there will be more options for testing through Test Iowa and she hopes to make an announcement on that next week.
