(Oakland) The Oakland Manor is battling an outbreak of COVID-19.
Pottawattamie County Planning and Development director Matt Wyant tells KSOM/KS95 News, originally 18 residents tested positive for the virus and one resident died leaving the total number of cases at the facility at 17, remaining positive cases, and three of the individuals are hospitalized. “No matter our greatest efforts on trying to safeguard the residents there, it’s such a highly contagious virus, eventually it makes its way in,” said Wyant. “The one good thing is we’ve had time to plan for it making sure we have the appropriate local response enabling us to come out with the best results.”
Wyant says the care facilities quarantine plan is in effect. “Which is full PPE, isolation, and monitoring the symptoms, and daily communication with local and the Iowa Public Health Department,” stated Wyant.
Last week a Council Bluffs nursing home acknowledged a coronavirus outbreak at its facility that left six residents dead.
Risen Sun Christian Village in Council Bluffs said the six COVID-19 deaths at its facility occurred since it reported its first case on June 26. Officials said 21 other residents and 13 employees were infected with the virus.
Risen Son Christian Village dedicated units for infection control and is not allowing infected employees to come back to work until they’re cleared by the health department.
