(Creston) A Creston woman faces charges after her car struck and seriously injured two pedestrians.
According to Creston Police, the accident happened at around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday on McKinley Street. Authorities say 83-year old Mary Louise Laird of Creston, driving a southbound 2016 Ford Taurus struck a parked car. Laird’s car entered the ditch and struck two pedestrians identified as 69-year old Jim Jay Giles, and 69-year old Rhonda Sue Giles, from Creston. The impact threw Rhonda Giles into a power pole, and Jim Jay Giles rolled over the top of the car. The car continued through the ditch striking barriers and snapped a power pole before coming to rest in the ditch.
The two pedestrians were transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Officers transported Laird to the Union County Jail and placed her under arrest for OWI. Witnesses stated Laird’s was driving without headlights.
