(Paid Sponsorship) Atlantic High School seeks a dynamic special education teacher to join our talented team as a 9th-12th Level I Resource Special Education teacher.
The successful candidate will have a passion for working with children in 9th through 12th grade and recognize the critical importance education plays in the development process of children. The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for creating a learning environment conducive to student achievement and development through maintaining high expectations and a high standard of rigor in the following areas: Instruction, Design and Planning, the Learning Environment and Professionalism. The High School Special Education Teacher will report to the Principal.
Job Duties and Tasks:
1) Maintain accurate and complete student records, and prepare reports on children and activities, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
2) Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
3) Establish and enforce rules for behavior and policies and procedures to maintain order among students.
4) Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and professionals to develop individual educational plans designed to promote students’ educational, physical, and social development.
5) Instruct through a variety of methods in one or more subjects such as English, mathematics, or social studies.
6) Employ special educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory.
7) Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
8) Teach personal development skills such as goal setting, independence, and self-advocacy.
