(Exira) Exira-EHK’s District Leadership Team met Wednesday morning and finalized a letter to send out to parents in regards to the Return to Learn Plan.
In the plan, students will start off the first few weeks of the year by attending school for four days a week and staying at home on Wednesday’s. Superintendent Trevor Miller outlines how that one day away from the school building per week for students will be utilized. “We’ll work with distance learning and also give our staff time to collaborate and work. They’ll figure out where our students are at and what plans they need to adjust. We thought instead of coming back all five days to start with we’d give some flexibility the first few weeks to give our teachers time to assess where their students are and figure out how to make sure we are successful as we go through the rest of the year. We’ll hopefully be on site, but like I put in all caps and bold letters this is all subject to change.”
A parent survey shows over 90% of families intend to send their kids to school, but those that wish to keep students at home full-time can do so. “If they want to do 100% online they can, but there will be some stipulations on that where they will have to commit for a quarter or a semester and can’t go back and forth week to week. That would not work well for scheduling and for students involved on both ends.”
Facial coverings will be expected, but not required. “The expectation is we have facial coverings. We didn’t go with the work required, but that can always change too on public guidance and working with the school board. Right now they felt expected was a good choice to use.”
A parent meeting will be held late next week. Miller admits they are still working out details with transportation and the cafeteria as well as large group gatherings involving PE, Band, and Chorus.
