(Atlantic) The Cass County Board of Supervisors approved an application for voluntary annexation from Agriland FS at their meeting this morning.
Supervisors Chairman Steve Baier said the property is located in Griswold. “We’ve got a building on this property that is part county/part city and this resolution would put it all in the city limits.” The City of Griswold is in favor of the annexation as well.
In other action, the Supervisors approved the IDOT Agreement for County Bridge Federal-Aid SWAP funding for a bridge project on Boston Road .1 mile east of Olive Street. The estimated value is $600,000. They also approved the low bid from Murphy Heavy Contracting in the amount of $211,015 for a stream grade stabilization and bank protection project.
Also during the meeting, Griswold City Council Member Julie Adams spoke the about an issue with a proposed cell tower going up near the City.
Julie Adams explained that there is a cell phone company that wants to put tower in next to Griswold and several people within the City objected to the location. She said they went to a zoning commission meeting to speak their minds; a representative of the cell phone company was at this meeting as well. The zoning commission did vote down their request to change the zoning. However…
Julie Adams said the City did suggest other properties in the area that the cell phone company can use, but she is not sure if they have pursued any of them. Adams asked the Supervisors if there is anything the County can do help.
Board Chairman Steve Baier explained his understanding of the Code.
Baier said unfortunately from the County end he hasn’t found anything they can do to stop this. He said he would contact the cell phone company to see how much effort they have put into examining those other sites proposed by the City Council. Julie Adams said she has made some calls, but has not received a call back.
Adams said the City is not against the tower, just the location where they are currently planning to put it.
