(Walnut) Several area fire departments were called back to the Super 8 hotel in Walnut Sunday evening for a fire.
The fire was reported before 10:00 p.m. Walnut Fire Chief Justen Tooley said, “When we got on scene we had heavy smoke and flames coming out of the south side of the building, about halfway down the building, approximately 100 feet from where the fire was yesterday.”
The second floor of the south side of the hotel sustained quite a bit of damage. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. Nobody was staying in the hotel at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.
The Walnut, Avoca, Shelby, Hancock, Marne, Atlantic, Harlan, Minden, and Elk Horn fire departments responded to the scene along with Medivac and Pottawattamie County Emergency Management.
Multiple fire departments responded to the Super 8 hotel at around 12:15 p.m. on Saturday for a fire that occurred in the upper northwest corner of the building. The hotel was evacuated before firefighters arrived and nobody was injured.
In April of 2018, fire also destroyed the pool area just north of the main entrance of the hotel.
