(Harlan) Atlantic and Harlan square off for the lead in the Hawkeye Ten Conference standings this evening at Harlan. Both teams sport 6-0 conference records. The Cyclones are 9-1, Atlantic is 8-1, overall.
Hinzman says Harlan is a well-coached team, limits their mistakes, and they don’t beat themselves.
The Trojans lead all 3A teams with a team batting average of .456 and are second in the state in RBI with 88, second in hits with 128, and second in on-base percentage at .497, and second in slugging percentage at .626. Trojans are also fourth in Class 3A, with 95 runs scored in nine games.
Madison Botos leads the team in hitting with a .568 batting average, followed by McKenzie Water hitting .517. Lauren Nicholas is hitting .500. Coach Hinzmann says the team is having fun, and everyone is all on the same page and knows what’s expected of themselves in regards to execution, particularly on the base paths.
The Cyclones enter the contest hitting .320 on the season. Harlan Community scored 57 runs through the first ten games, with an on-base percentage of .367. Julia Schechinger leads the team in hitting with a batting average of .457. The Cyclones defense is solid, allowing the opposition on average to just two runs per game. The pitching staff boasts an earned run average of 1.29. Tianna Kasperbauer is 5-0 with an ERA of 1.52 in 15 innings of work. Emily Brouse is 4-1, with an ERA of 1.07.
