(Atlantic) Jaxon Lehnen and Brett Klusman combined for seven hits to lead St. Albert past Atlantic 10-6 in a Hawkeye Ten Conference baseball game at Griswold on Monday night.
The Falcons scored ten runs on 15 hits. Lehnen went 4-4 with one RBI, and Klusman stroked three singles and drove in three runs to lead St. Albert. The Trojans scored six runs on six hits. Gunner Kirchhoff singled and drove in two runs, and Lane Nelson had a single and an RBI to lead Atlantic.
The Trojans erased a 4-1 deficit and grabbed a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Kirchhoff laced a two-RBI single, and Nelson singled and drove in another run to boost the Trojans offense. The Falcons vaulted to a 6-5 lead in the top of the fourth inning with two runs on three hits. Ryan Genereux and Cy Patterson drove in the two runs for the Falcons.
The Trojans answered with one run in the bottom of the frame, and evened the contest at 6-6. But the Trojans couldn’t hold off the “hot” bats of St. Albert. The Falcons answered with a run in the fifth, two more in the sixth, and one in the seventh inning to secure the 10-6 victory. Jeff Miller, Lance Wright, and Cy Patterson each had two hits, and Isaac Sherrill and Eric Matthai added singles for the Falcons now (7-0), on the season.
“We worked with Lane Nelson on going with the pitch rather than pulling the ball, and Gunner Kirchhoff stroked a nice line drive that scored two runs for us,” said Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer. “I was happy with the way we put the ball in play. The guys were patient at the plate, and we got more productivity out of our three, four and five hitters tonight. We just left too many guys on base, and St. Albert made the plays when they needed to.”
Colin Mullenix, Gunner Kirchhoff, Lane Nelson, Wyatt Redinbaugh, Bodie Johnson, and Grant Sturm accounted for the Trojans six hits.
Atlantic now (1-3) on the season, travel to Kuemper, Catholic, Carroll tonight. St. Albert host Denison-Schleswig.
