(Oakland) Riverside picked up a 4-3 softball victory over Treynor on Monday night to improve to 4-1 on the season. They remain unbeaten in the conference. The only loss thus far for the Lady Dawgs came to Lenox on Saturday.
Against Treynor they took advantage of some offensive opportunities early in the contest to snare two runs in the 1st and two more in the 2nd. That cushion proved to be all they would need. Treynor answered back with two runs in the 3rd and put some pressure on in the 7th when they closed within 4-3, but Ashlynn Amdor came up with a big catch in centerfield to help Riverside pick up a rare win over Treynor.
Aftewards coach Chris Conover said, “It feels really good. That was a game the girls really wanted. We haven’t had much luck with Treynor in any of our sports so to get one the way we did to scrap and cling and fight out a win felt really good.”
Six batters are hitting at a .400 clip or better early in the season for the Lady Dawgs. They include: Ashlynn Amdor (.533), Gracie Bluml (.474), Kenna Ford (.421), Ari McGlade (.417), Izzy Bluml (.400), and Meghan Reed (.400). Ford has been solid in the pitcher’s circle with a 0.88 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 24 innings pitched. Riverside has conference games ahead this week with Underwood and Tri-Center. They are also scheduled to play in the Nodaway Valley Tournament on Saturday.
