(Area) If you are in the market for a bicycle, good luck. Manufacturers are having a hard time keeping up with the demand.
Suppliers have been telling Bike Farm owner Steve Anderson for months that he’ll simply have to wait receive any orders. “They’ve been on back order, almost impossible to get. The suppliers are saying they might not be able to get them until August or September. I do have one supplier, a Canadian company, that I’m able to get them from in about a week. It’s not a company I’ve sold a lot from in the past, but they are popular this year because of their availability.”
Anderson has experienced a big surge at his shop located north of Atlantic, which he opened approximately ten years ago. “It’s something that families can do together. I’ve seen more kids bikes needing repaired this year than I have any other. That means the parents are also pulling out their bikes that they haven’t used in 10-15 years or more. It’s very rewarding to get those bikes back on the road.”
Anderson is not the only one having a hard time staying stocked up. Officials at the Bicycle Store in downtown Atlantic confirmed they are completely sold out of bikes and have already sold more this year than they typically do in an entire summer.
