(Oakland) Kenna Ford struck out nine batters, walked two, and allowed just two hits in a complete game shutout on Monday. Riverside began their 2020 campaign with a 5-0 home win against Audubon.
Riverside first cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Meghan Reed had a single, moved to 2nd on an error, advanced to 3rd on an Izzy Bluml groundout and scored with two outs when Audubon’s pickoff attempt at third base sailed into left field.
The home squad added two more runs in the 3rd. Chiara Rains, Ashlynn Amdor, and Gracie Bluml reached in consecutive fashion to start the frame. Skye Bentley produced an RBI groundout to score Rains and Kenna Ford singled Amdor home, extending Riverside’s lead to 3-0.
They’d make it a five run cushion an inning later on Gracie Bluml’s two run double. All of the Lady Dawg’s damage in the 4th came with two outs. Rains and Amdor each walked ahead of Bluml’s RBI hit.
Five runs of breathing room was plenty for Ford who gave up only singles to Kali Irlmeier and Jordan Porsch on the evening.
