(Elk Horn) A return to learn program is being discussed by the Exira-EHK District Leadership Team and Board of Education.
Superintendent Trevor Miller feels they are well prepared to get something in place. “We did the voluntary and so we know what worked and didn’t work. Since it’s required now it’s a change and we’ll have to have a parent meeting with training on the different platforms we’ve used.” Miller says, “It was a good trial run for the last couple of months, but now that we’ve had time to plan everything will be more concise and parents will have a better understanding of expectations.”
A plan must be submitted by July 1st. “The team is doing a good job of working on it and coming up with six areas and different options. There is a survey sent out to our parents that hopefully everyone fills out about technology. The state has some money and if they don’t have it out in the rural areas they can get it to you in case we are doing distance learning again this year.”
The district wants to work together with parents. “We want to make sure we don’t overload our parents because if you have three students at different grade levels and they have to do seven hours of work per day that will be pretty hard if the parents are working. We have to be flexible and understand everybody has different needs.”
Also on Monday night the board approved an 80/20 sharing agreement with Harlan for Transportation Director Steve Humphrey. Kyle Wagner has been approved as Board Treasurer and will begin doing payroll on July 1st. Current Treasurer Karli North is retiring at the end of the month. Wagner will eventually take over as Board Secretary as well.
