(Avoca) AHSTW’s Booster Club is full speed ahead when it comes to supporting the school’s activities. A driving force behind it is Toni Scheffler.
Scheffler got involved because she was a sports fan and wanted the student athletes to be able to have nice things. One of the big goals she’s achieved is expanding the booster club to include junior high as well.
She’s currently the Vice President of the booster club which is a big undertaking, but it’s all worthwhile.
Scheffler takes pride in not only offering food at the concession stand, but having good food that people will remember and show up for. She’s on a mission to be the best and gives a big shout out to Gress Locker for providing quality meat. And she almost has the popcorn mastered.
Scheffler has fully gotten behind an idea a friend of hers, Mike Lund came up with, which is the Dewey Carroll Fan of the Year Award. The late Duane Carroll drove the bus to games and was well known for his support of AHSTW. Scheffler remembers him being at all events.
Two couples are in the running for the first annual Dewey Carroll Award. One couple is Rod and Linda Andersen.
The other nominees are Phil and Diane Zimmerman.
They plan to give out the first annual award sometime in the early stages of the 2020-21 basketball season.
The FANtastic Fans series comes to a close tomorrow. Our final guest will be David from ACGC.
