(Audubon) Audubon’s Park and Recreation Board is optimistic they’ll be able to open the pool at some point this summer.
In fact, prep work is underway. Ashley Hartl is the Park and Rec Board President and says, “They are working on cleaning things out and making sure all the pipes and water running into the pool is operating correctly.”
While some communities have already made the call to keep their pool closed for the entire season, the Audubon Park and Recreation Board felt it was important to provide this opportunity. “There are a lot of unknowns with COVID and we just wanted to go out and give the kids something to do while we’re under these circumstances.”
Of course the pool’s opening date is at the mercy of Governor Kim Reynolds. “Just waiting for Governor Reynolds, hopefully she’ll give us the okay to open. Even if it’s at half capacity or whatever the restrictions are this summer we are going to try to give it a go this year.”
It’s a decision the five board members didn’t take lightly. “I think the majority of us have all had mixed feelings. We didn’t know as far as a sanitation process how much more work it would be to have the pool operating. A couple of lifeguards contacted us and gave us their opinion. I think with the staff that we have we’ll be able to navigate through this without any problems.”
Thus far nine lifeguards have been offered positions.
