(Griswold) The Iowa House-passed bill’s last week that determine the tax rate for motor fuel and another that creates more broadband internet.
Iowa House District 21 Representative Tom Moore of Griswold says the Excise Fuel Tax is a massive bill for farmers and the ethanol industry. He says this new bill would replace the existing tax schedule with a new program to determine the tax rate of motor fuel. The market share of ethanol-blended gasoline, E-15 or higher determines the tax rates—the current schedule sunsets at the end of this fiscal year.
The House also passed the Empower Rural Iowa Bill. Moore says this bill creates a more accurate map of under-served broadband areas. It also creates a tiered match for grant programs based on speed. And it gives the OCIO added flexibility to spend COVID dollars identified for broadband infrastructure and broadband service.
Tom Moore says approximately $15 million of state money $500 million in federal dollars are available to fund this bill.
