(State) The Iowa DNR’s free fishing weekend is underway and Fisheries Biologist Bryan Hayes says it comes at a great time.
Free fishing weekend falls under near optimal conditions this year. “That free fishing weekend started Friday and continues Saturday and Sunday. It gives people an opportunity to get out and try their luck at fishing at a time when we expect fishing to be pretty decent. In early June we still have bluegill spawning out there. The #1 fish caught in the state is bluegills.”
Residents of Iowa are allowed to fish the first weekend of June without purchasing a license.
