(Walnut) People of all ages and abilities are invited to the Chalk Art Block Party in Walnut.
Noreen Schroder, an experienced chalk artist, said one block of Walnut Street is blocked off for the event which begins at 6:00 p.m. tonight and continues through the weekend. Schroder said this is a great opportunity for the community to get out and about.
“You know, their Antique Walk is cancelled and so we’ve got all these people wanting to get out and do something and we didn’t want to make it a festival necessarily because there won’t be public restrooms or anything like that, so people have to kind of keep that in mind,” said Schroder. “We want to encourage people to come and see it but to practice social distancing, keep their masks on, and then those who are drawing – we’re separated enough that you can just draw and not be afraid of people getting close to you. So, I think it’s definitely something somebody can go out and do and feel safe doing it.”
Schroder said she is doing the Chalk Art Block Party in place of the Denver Chalk Art Festival which she is usually doing this weekend.
“We’ve gone virtual, so I will be posting pictures of my piece on the Denver Chalk Art Festival event page and that goes National so there will be some recognition for at least for me doing this here and if there is somebody else here doing a real quality piece, that will be included on the post,” said Schroder.
You can choose an 8×8 square without an X on it (first come, first served) and begin your chalk art project this evening and work through the weekend as you want.
If you would like some tips on doing your drawing, Noreen Schroder will be available this evening at 7:00 in the middle of the block.
