(Atlantic) Construction continues to progress at the Atlantic Community Schools multi-million dollar athletic facilities renovation project. This week construction crews installed the lights at the football stadium. Lighting installation is underway at the baseball-softball complex.
“It’s unbelievable how smooth the lights go up, and a tribute to the skilled workers,” said Bob Sweeney, who is overseeing the project for the school district. “It’s fascinating to see all this play out. Crews are trenching for a retaining wall that expands from the northeast corner to the southeast corner, and they will build in from there.
“Bleacher installation remains, but it’s neat to see how it all comes together,” said Sweeney. “The project is moving in the right direction, and it’s amazing how much work’s done, despite COVID-19.”
The $9.5 million project includes; synthetic turf at the Trojan Bowl, new concessions, ticket booths, restrooms, storage, rubber track, press box, and ADA compliant bleachers. Additionally, the project involves site paving, lighting and sound, and a new scoreboard. The baseball and softball upgrades include; new dugouts, batting cages, concession, press boxes, and a hard surfaces walkway between the two fields.
