(Audubon) Audubon baseball will get their season started in just over two weeks with head coach Matt Wilder in his debut campaign.
Wilder is a former standout player at baseball powerhouse Newman Catholic in Mason City who also played at NIACC. He has the luxury of not having lost any seniors from last season. “Everybody returns which is going to be helpful especially for me in my first year here. We have a lot of high expectations after losing in the district final last year and making a good, late season push. We hope to build off of that and start off this season strong.”
Wilder comments on the practice approach they’ll take as they prepare for games in a short window. “Obviously it’s going to be a little bit of a difference season and a challenge. We got to throw in the month of February and then in March, April, and May it’s going to be a hit and miss on how many people have been throwing. We are going to try and cram as much as possible into those two weeks of practice.”
Joel Klocke, Skyler Schultes, and Jackson Jensen all turned in strong seasons on the mound last year while Schultes and Marcus Olsen were among the offensive leaders. Audubon begins the year June 15th against Riverside.
