(Griswold) An extremely young baseball team will take the field for Griswold this summer.
A majority of the players will be 8th graders and freshman, but the Tigers do have junior Colton Turner returning. Last season he led the team in RBI with 10 and had a .333 average. Coach Carter Stephens says, “We’re lucky to have Colton Turner coming back. He’s about a 6’4″ junior and has put on some weight and some muscle in the offseason. He helped the basketball team out and got in share there and was looking to have a big track season until that got taken away from him. He’s a key piece that’s going to be coming back.”
Outside of Turner, coach Carter Stephens’ team is made up of all underclassmen. “A wonderful group of freshman. They are pretty good utility players. On top of that we have some 8th graders so we are really young. Hopefully we are really energetic and ready to play this year.”
With so little experience, there will be a lot of learning taking place. “The more experience and pressure situations you can get them in it helps. We had a few 8th graders start last year so some of the freshman already have 20 games under their belt which is nice. They are what they are and they have to break it down and do what they can do at their level to help the team as a whole.”
