(Adair) Adair-Casey football star Clayton Plowman graduated as Iowa’s All-Time leading rusher for 8-player football. We talk to the former Bomber ahead of this week’s KSOM Classic Replay.
A Week 5 bout with high a powered Murray foe during Adair-Casey’s most recent undefeated regular will be re-air on KSOM Friday evening. “Yea that was kind of THEE game. We knew if we wanted to have a crack at the district title that year, Murray was standing in our way.”
Plowman remembers it being a tough game and needing a lot of points on the board to get by them. That’s why even a broken hand early in the contest couldn’t keep him on the sideline. The win ended a three game losing streak against the Mustangs. Murray and Adair-Casey developed into quite a rivalry. “It was a big one. We beat them my freshman year and then in my sophomore year we won in the regular season, but lost in the playoffs. My junior season they beat us both times including the quarterfinals. We were pretty hungry anytime we could play Murray.”
The 2013 squad was one of the many great teams in Bomber history. “We had so many different athletes. Four of our starters were state track runners. We had a pretty special team that year. If we could just get the ball rolling, other teams that we were playing were going to have a hard time stopping us.”
Plowman had 18 carries for 148 yards and three scores in that matchup with Murray. He ran the opening kickoff of the 2nd half back for a touchdown and also had three catches for 72 yards and a TD.
Our replay begins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
