(Madison County) One person died and a second person suffered injuries in an early morning crash in Madison County.
The Iowa State Patrol says the crash happened at 2:29 a.m. on Sunday in the 1800 block of Wind Wood Trail.
The preliminary accident report stated the driver, 18-year old Memphis Issac Kincade Pickett, of Winterset died at the scene. The passenger Quentin Lane Siefkas, of Peru, Iowa, suffered injuries in the crash. Emergency responders freed Siefkas from the vehicle by “mechanical means,” according to the preliminary report.
The Iowa State Patrol said a Chevrolet Silverado pickup eluded a Madison County Sheriff’s Deputy at a high rate of speed and lost control while attempting to negotiate a curve on a gravel road. The pickup crashed into the ditch and impacted some trees and a wire fence.
The Iowa State Patrol believes alcohol may be a factor in the pursuit and crash.
