(Greenfield) Nodaway Valley went 15-11 last season in baseball and lost just two seniors.
Tyler Vandewater had a monster junior season and jumps out as one of the team’s marquee talents heading into this year. Coach Dan Jameson says, “Ty will be huge of course. He’s done a lot of great things for us the last several years. Did a great job at the plate last year and threw out a lot of guys behind the plate trying to steal on him.”
This will be Vandewater’s 5th summer in the lineup. Last year he hit .506 with 30 runs driven in, 26 stolen bases, and three home runs. Coach Dan Jameson lists Mason Menefee, Evan Forcht, Caelen DeVault, and Mason Mather as some other potentially big contributors at the plate.
The team brings back their two top pitchers. Among them is senior Colby Harris. “He had a real nice season last year at 5-1 with a 1.55 ERA. He did a nice job keeping the ball around the plate and didn’t walk many guys. He did an amazing job.”
Another important arm returning is sophomore Caelen DeVault. “He ended up 3-2 on the mount last year and had a big win against SE Warren when they were undefeated late in the season. He’s a real competitor and knows the game pretty well.”
Mason Mather will also log some innings on the mound after going 4-1 last year. Austin Wilson, Mason Menefee, and Boston DeVault could also pitch. Practice starts on June 1st and games can begin on June 15th.
