(Area) The Iowa DNR is issuing a reminder to residents that picking up wildlife babies is not in their best interest.
Bryan Hayes advises, “Something that comes up every year in our office and in our work with the DNR is what to do with these wildlife babies that are perceived to be abandoned or need our help. The best advise is to leave those alone.”
Deer are starting to drop their fawns. “We always see a little spike in our car vs deer collisions this time of year as that activity begins. It won’t be too long and fawns will be on the ground. Every year we get people trying to rescue those fawns. Not only is it illegal, but it’s not the best thing to do for that fawn.”
Hayes says typically the wildlife is not abandoned, but rather hidden until the mother can return.
