(Elk Horn) Today we finish up our series on the unique nature surrounding the final days of retiring educators.
Lisa Dreier was willing to share her story about a bizarre end to a rewarding career. Without being able to go out in a typical manner, she admits it’s tempting to return for another year.
“Oh yes there are times I wish I never retired. I miss my students, I miss the staff, it’s been difficult. It’s been different and it’s still unbelievable at times.”
But, she has grandkids and the golf course calling her name.
“I’m kind of looking forward to maybe getting that first hole in one on the golf course. I enjoy biking and might try out some new Iowa trails. I have a new grandson so I’ll be spending a lot of family time. I’m also looking forward to substituting in some surrounding schools.”
Dreier says her time with Exira-EHK schools has truly been priceless over the years. She’d encourage anyone interested in becoming a teacher to give it a shot.
“I would encourage any young person to go into education. It has a lot of self worth and responsibilities that are rewarding experiences. I think the rewards are priceless. What you can inspire kids to do is meaningful.”
In addition to golfing, substituting, spending time with family, and biking, Dreier also intends to continue to volunteer to help out the schools and community.
