(Atlantic) The Cass County Board of Supervisors held a lengthy discussion on a resolution to restrict access to the Cass County Courthouse at their meeting this morning.
The resolution states that the Supervisors restrict access to the Cass County Courthouse to residents of Cass County and such other persons who are court ordered to appear. All others will be barred from entry to the Courthouse for the duration of the Governor’s mandated restrictions due to the COVID-19 virus or until such time is deemed practical to return to normal operations.
Supervisor Frank Waters did not agree with the resolution saying he feels it would be discrimination because the Courthouse is a public place. The Supervisors ultimately voted 3 to 2 to pass the resolution. (Frank Waters – No, Steve Baier – No, Steve Green – Yes, John Hartkopf – Yes, Mark O’Brien – Yes).
The Supervisors noted that services are still available online and by appointment and because of the upcoming Primary Election Cass County voters do have access to the Courthouse.
The Supervisors also discussed a resolution requiring employees and visitors to the Cass County Courthouse to wear face masks due to COVID-19. The Board decided not to pass the resolution, but they do encourage the public and employees to wear them and want people to know they have that option.
