(Elk Horn) A special meeting of the Exira-EHK School Board will be held this (Wednesday) evening.
The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m and among the main agenda items is to discuss and take action on bids to add Air Conditioning to the high school gym.
Superintendent Trevor Miller says, “We are looking at putting air in our gym here in Elk Horn. The board will look at all of those and they said they can get it done before school starts, but we’ll see.”
The reason for the special meeting is to get the air conditioning unit purchased now, so it will be ready to install this summer. Superintendent Miller says there is an 8-12 week wait to get the equipment. It’s something they’ve had their eyes on for several years, but didn’t have enough funding for when they did their bond issue. “It is something that has needed to be done. I know budgets were tight in 2001 when they did it, but when you don’t have a true auditorium so you have prom and graduation and all these other events in the gym it gets a little warm in there. It’s one of those things we looked at and budgeted for over the last couple of years and now we are able to get it done hopefully this summer.”
The board has some personnel matters to address as well, including the potential hire of a high school English teacher to replace Jill Johnston whose resignation will be acted on during Wednesday’s meeting.
