(Oakland) Ashlynn Amdor, of Riverside, has recently committed to play college softball.
Amdor is centerfielder for the Lady Dawgs. She’s chosen to continue her career at Iowa Western. “I just recently decided to play any sport in college, but I liked Iowa Western because it’s close to home and they have a really good program there.”
Losing out on spring sports and having her senior season of softball delayed (at the very least) showed her how much she’d miss it if she were done. “Definitely this whole COVID-19 thing has made me realize I didn’t want to be done playing softball. I just love it and don’t want to be done.”
Even though she made up her mind to play late in the recruiting process, thankfully she already had a foot in the door with the Reivers. “I had e-mailed them a long time ago and they just got back to me and said it wasn’t too late. They were trying to get to 32 people on their roster so it was lucky for me that it was so late and they were still accepting.”
A lot of extra time spent in the offseason has helped Amdor get to a point where she’s capable of landing a spot at the next level. “We have done a lot of offseason softball. More than any other sport in high school. I think that really has prepared me.”
Amdor hit .307 as a junior with 22 run scored and 13 stolen bases. She also played well defensively in centerfield with only one error all season and a 98.4% fielding percentage.
