(Harlan) Several fire departments responded to a structure fire east of Harlan Tuesday evening.
Harlan Fire Chief Roger Bissen said they were paged to Iowa Agricultural Bio Fibers on 900th Street, north of Prairie Rose State Park, at 9:19 pm.
“The building was fully engulfed by the time we got there. This is a building that has ingredients for making feed and pelletizing feed and so we went to defensive mode and we used about 10 tankers to shuttle water and just maintain control of it so it didn’t spread,” said Bissen.
Firefighters were on scene until about 3:45 a.m. The structure was a total loss. There were no injuries. Roger Bissen said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Harlan Fire Department, Medivac Ambulance, Kirkman Fire Department, Irwin Fire Department, Kimballton Fire Department, Elk Horn Fire Department, Walnut Fire Department and Avoca Fire Department responded to the scene.
