(Audubon) The FY21 Budget for the Audubon School District has been approved.
The budget comes with a tax levy rate increase of 21 cents per thousand, but given that they passed a $7.5 million bond issue school officials are happy the increase wasn’t any higher. Superintendent Eric Trager says “When we were talking about the bond we were telling the public the levy rate would go up 73 cents or less and they ended up going up 21 cents so we were pretty pleased with that result.”
The board and the administration continue to assess how to handle several matter related to the closure of schools through the rest of the year such as grades, credits, and graduation. “The Governor has waived the start date for next year so we have some decisions to make in terms of the schedule and how we help kids get caught up.”
Trager says they’ve been meeting with fellow Western Iowa Conference superintendents to devise a plan. “We had a good discussion and we’ve had some thoughts, but nothing is going to be as good as if we just went to school. We are trying to make the best of a bad situation.”
Trager says there are no decisions to report so far, but wants people to know they are working hard to figure all of those things out and do what is best for kids.
