(Elk Horn) Online learning will be taking place for Exira-EHK students until school is allowed to resume.
The administrative team at Exira-EHK determined the voluntary make up option to be the best route for the district. Superintendent Trevor Miller identifies the educational priorities. “We went with the voluntary program for all pre-K through 12th grade students. We sat down with the District Leadership Team and the principals had staff meetings. The expectations will vary by grade level, but we want to make sure we get our literacy, match, social emotional, social studies, science and also have our teachers put in PE, Art, and different activities. Right now it is voluntary, but we are highly encouraging it. Right now our teachers are reaching out to all of our students and parents by e-mail and if they don’t hear back then they’ll reach out to them by phone call.”
Miller admits it’ll be a new venture and learning process for all parties involved. “We are still learning as we go. When you close school on a Friday the 13th and all of a sudden on March 16th get told you are now an online school it’s kind of doing the best you can. We are trying to reach as many schools as possible.”
By offering remote instruction, Exira-EHK students and staff will not have to make up the make up any school days missed.
