(Atlantic) The Atlantic School Board passed the 2020-2021 certified budget following a public hearing on Wednesday. The budget included a drop in the levy rate from $14.72 per one thousand dollars of valuation this year, to $14.22 for next year’s budget.
The Board also approved a resolution supporting an accurate Census count for Cass County and the Atlantic Community Schools. School officials will inform parents of the importance of completing the 2020 U.S. 2020 Census, and provide a link to the document.
The School Board approved the Superintendent’s revised pandemic pay resolution for both hourly and salaried employees. The action by the Board allows the district to pay its employees regular and customary pay through April 30. In the event the Governor extends school closures, the school board will reconvene and determine what authority, if any, the Superintendent has to continue paying employees who work on a contracted or salaried basis during the closure.
The Board also approved the Superintendent’s recommendation declaring May 5, 2020, National Teacher Day in the Atlantic School District. The proclamation recognizes the teaching staff for their commitment and dedication to the students in the district. National Teacher Appreciation Week is the second week of May.
The Board also approved several change orders for the athletic facilities project.
In other business, the School Board accepted the resignation of Sarah Elm, High School Guidance Counselor, and Student Council Sponsor.
