(Johnston) Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds at her daily briefing on Thursday morning reported 125 new cases of COVID-19 in the state bringing the total to 1,270 positive cases, in 79 counties. Reynolds reported 882 negative tests for a total of 13,703, with 2,530 tests available at the State Hygienic Laboratory. The Governor said 115 individuals are hospitalized, and 476 people have recovered which is 38-percent of the total positive cases. The report also indicates two additional deaths bringing the total to 29 fatalities. One of the deceased is an elderly adult, and one older adult, both from Linn County.
Governor Reynolds reviewed the number of cases in the RMCC regions in northwest and Southwest Iowa.
The northwest Iowa region currently has nine counties with no positive COVID-19 cases and a significant number of counties with three or less positive cases. As of Wednesday, one COVID-19 patient was hospitalized, with no new patients admitted within the last 24 hours, one patient in ICU, and one individual on a ventilator. Additionally, this region has 399 inpatient beds, 32 ICU beds, and 51 ventilators ready for patient care.
Reynolds says in Region 5 which includes Johnson County there were 32 COVID-19 patients hospitalized as of Wednesday, seven new patients admitted in the past 24 hours, 14 individuals in ICU’s, and 11 people on ventilators, there were 702 inpatient beds, 93 ICU beds and 167 ventilators available for patient care in this region. In Region 6 which includes Linn County, 48 patients were hospitalized, 4 new patients were admitted in the past 24 hours, 32 patients in ICU’s, and 17 individuals are on ventilators. At the same time, there are 1,002 inpatient beds, 57 ICU beds, and 119 ventilators for patient care in Region 6.
