(Johnston) Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds today reported 102 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the total positive cases to 1,048.
Governor Reynolds, during her daily briefing, noted three new counties reported positive tests including, Buena Vista, Greene, and Delaware, bringing the total to 78. The Governor says 104 individuals are hospitalized, 341 recovered, and one additional death, an elderly adult in Benton County, bringing the total fatalities to 26. Additionally, the State Hygienic Lab and other labs have 11,670 tests available.
Iowa is divided into six health care coalition regions. Governor Reynolds zeroed in two of those regions to explain how the RMCC enables care coordination between providers to ensure the right care at the right time and the right place for Iowans in need. The Governor touched on Region 5, which includes Johnson County.
Reynolds says as of Monday, 20 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized in the region 6, three individuals admitted within the last 24 hours, seven in ICU, and three on ventilators. There are currently 713 inpatient beds available in the region, 94 ICU beds, and 181 ventilators available and ready for patient care.
The Governor says region six that covers the northeast part of the state, including Linn County, another one of the current hotspots. As of today, 77 of Linn County’s 184 total COVID-19 positive cases are related to an outbreak in a single long-term care facility.
Fifty positive COVID-19 cases are hospitalized in region 6 as of Monday; six of those individuals had been admitted in the last 24 hours, with 27 in the ICU and 17 patients were on ventilators. During this same time frame, there are 1,004 inpatient beds available, 57 ICU beds, and 110 ventilators available in region six hospitals.
The Governor says understanding the bed and ventilator capacity and intensive care capacity within an area enables state health officials to coordinate care if patient volume dramatically increases. Health Officials will move ventilators from one area to another to accommodate the need. Patients can also transfer to other facilities if their condition calls for a higher level of care.
