(Bridgewater) Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Director Bob Kempf tells KSOM/KS95 News, a weak tornado damaged a farmstead near Bridgewater on Saturday afternoon.
Kempf says a storm system developed funnel clouds as it moved northeast through northern Adams and southern Adair Counties. “We had reports of funnel clouds just south of the Adams County line,” stated Kempf. “One of the funnel clouds touched down five-to-six miles southeast of Bridgewater and damaged a farmstead.”
The small twister pushed power poles into a field, destroyed an outbuilding building, damaged two other outbuildings, and caused minor damage to the home. Thankfully there were no injuries.
“This was a weak tornado that may not rank on the fujita scale because it was so short-lived,” said Kempf. “This is a good warning for people to pay attention to wind advisories and severe thunderstorm warnings tagged with 60-70 mile per winds.”
The National Weather Service issued the Tornado Warning at 2:24 p.m. and canceled it just before 3:00 p.m.
