(Atlantic) Atlantic School District employees will be paid during the school closure. The school board passed two resolutions on Thursday morning to compensate the contracted certified staff as well as the hourly individuals.
“This is an unprecedented event,” said Atlantic Schools Superintendent Steve Barber. “We don’t have many temporary school closures in our history, let alone now.
“The board felt strongly, at least on the short term through April 10, we need to compensate our staff and hourly workers,” said Barber. “They recognize this wasn’t the fault of any of our employees and wanted to clear the air. Obviously, when school abruptly closes for four weeks there are a lot of questions, concerns, anxiety, and fears. We wanted to attempt to alleviate some of that especially when it comes to compensation.”
The Atlantic School District students are tentatively scheduled to return to school on April 13.
