(Carroll) Emergency crews responded to an explosion at a clothing store in Carroll this morning.
Officials say the explosion happened at around 7:02 a.m. at 125 W. 5th Street. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they discovered the rear windows were blown out of the building housing Wilkie Clothiers. There was no sign of a fire.
According, to reports the blast launched a steel manhole cover located at the rear of the building so high it landed vertically into the ground burying nearly half of the cover.
The Carroll Fire Department and crews from Mid-American Energy and Alliant Energy assisted at the scene.
