(Creston) The Creston Police Department and the Union County Sheriff’s Office would like to inform the public about changes in their response due to the COVID-19 virus.
Until March 31st, authorities are asking for the public’s help to reduce emergency services exposure. If you request emergency services, dispatchers will ask follow-up questions to determine the appropriate response from emergency services. If you are ill or have other special circumstances that make you especially susceptible to infectious disease, notify the dispatcher.
Emergency services may utilize a variety of techniques to reduce the spread of the Coronavirus such as taking the report over the phone, asking complainants to talk outside, avoid going inside unnecessary residences, not shaking hands, wearing protective equipment and maintaining a 6-foot separation during contact.
Public access to the Law Enforcement Center to the Law Enforcement Center will also be limited during this time. The public is asked to call the Law Enforcement Center at 641-782-8402 for all routine calls for service. Anyone going to the Law Enforcement Center will need to use the intercom located at the main entrance to talk to a dispatcher and will need to be buzzed in to the main building.
The Sheriff’s Office is also suspending the following programs: applicant finger printing, issuance of gun permits and vehicle inspections and court-ordered jail time.
