(Atlantic) Atlantic Mayor Dave Jones signed a Proclamation of Emergency on Tuesday, following confirmation of multiple cases of COVID-19 in Iowa.
The Mayor proclaimed an emergency in the City of Atlantic as of March 17, 2020, continuing until 11:59 p.m., March 31, 2020.
The City is abiding by all of the restrictions put forth by Governor Reynolds, ordering restaurants, bars, fitness centers, theaters, and casinos to close for two weeks as part of a public health emergency plan designed to ease the community spread of the coronavirus. The Proclamation limits the mass gatherings and events to 10-people, including parades, festivals, conventions, and fundraisers through March 31. Mayor Jones clarifies; the inside of restaurants are closed, many of these establishments will provide takeout and delivery. Check with the restaurant of your choice and see what type of service they are providing.
The Atlantic City Library closed; curbside delivery of materials is available. The City Council meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, cancelled. The City Clerk and City Administrator’s Office is closed to the public. There is a dropbox in the City Hall lobby for payments and permits. Additionally, the Park and Rec. Office and Waste Water Treatment Plant Offices closed to the public. The Animal Shelter is closed to the public and accessible by appointment only for animal claims or cremation services. Dog licenses are due March 31 and may be obtained online.
Under the Proclamation; the Police and fire operations, Atlantic Municipal Airport, and Street Department will continue normal operations. Code enforcement will operate on an emergency basis only.
