(Corning) A Southwest Valley student who is raising money for the Ronald McDonald’s House in Des Moines issued a challenge to Corning businesses.
Lillie Oglesbee’s project is through the (FCCLA), family, career, community, leaders of America. The Southwest Valley senior is asking people and businesses to donate items and money for her cause. “I’ve always done projects for kids because you never know if there is a huge shortage of something, so I just try and help out,” stated Oglesbee. “My supervisor reached out and thought the Ronald McDonald House would be a good project so I put it into action.”
Oglesbee is asking community members to donate pop tabs, paper products, and everyday household items, money, books, and toys.“Those people who have children need something to do while staying at the Ronald McDonald House,” explained Oglesbee.
Oglesbee says others in the class are conducting shoe drives for the homeless, and others are making backpacks. Oglesbee says the focus of this project is to help the community and to demonstrate that people in smaller communities can make a difference.
Lillie says those donating will receive a certificate, and the business in Corning donating the highest amount will receive Backgrounds Coffee as a bonus.
This isn’t the first time this southwest Iowa student has raised money for a good cause. Oglesbee says two years ago she knitted 40-hats for premature babies in neonatal care in Omaha.
