(Council Bluffs) A Missouri man faces numerous charges following a pursuit in Pottawattamie County.
Iowa State Patrol Trooper and Public Information Officer Scott Miller tells KSOM/KS95 News, 26-year old Devonte Charles Head of Saint Joseph, Missouri, faces charges of eluding law enforcement, vehicle theft, OWI, and numerous traffic violations. “The main thing is we got a criminal off the road who was driving dangerously and could have hurt somebody else,” stated Trooper Miller.
The incident started at around 6:47 p.m. after communications received a call from a motorist reporting a white Chevy truck with Missouri license plates traveling all over the road. Law Enforcement ran the plates and discovered the vehicle stolen out of Missouri. “We got some Troopers behind the westbound truck and attempted a felony stop on the vehicle,” said Miller. “As the troopers exited their vehicles, the truck took off.”
Devonte Head led Troopers on a pursuit westbound where Council Bluffs Police attempted to disable the truck with stop sticks. Head jumped the median and headed eastbound on Interstate 80. The Chevy truck tried to cross the median again at the 26-mile near Neola, but the car stalled due to damaged tires, and Troopers took Devonte Head into custody.
The Council Bluffs Police Department, Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office, and an Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Officer assisted the Iowa State Patrol.
