(Glenwood) An Omaha, Nebraska man was arrested following a pursuit in Mills County Friday.
The Mills County Sheriff’s Office says deputies with the Mills County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit conducted a traffic stop on a 2006 Chevy Silverado in the area of Highway 34/195th Street at approximately 7:28 p.m. The driver, identified as 36-year-old Mickie Gene Weppner, pulled over at first, but then started to flee as deputies approached, nearly striking one of the deputies. Weppner led deputies on a short pursuit before entering the north ditch of Highway 34 and crashing into a drainage ditch. Weppner attempted to flee on foot, but due to injuries sustained in the crash he was unable to make it far.
Weppner was found to have an active warrant for his arrest out of Douglas County, Nebraska. The Chevy Silverado was reported stolen out of Omaha on February 20th.
Weppner was transported to Jennie Edmundson Hospital to be treated for injuries and later transported to the Mills County Jail where he was held on $15,000 cash only bond.
The Mills County K9 Unit was assisted on the scene by Glenwood Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office, Glenwood Rescue and Pacific Junction Rescue.
