(Greenfield) One person was killed and another was injured in a two-vehicle accident in Adair County this morning.
The Iowa State Patrol says 47-year-old Darrell Wain Smith, of Winterset, suffered fatal injuries in the accident that occurred at 6:37 a.m. at Highway 92 and Pinewood Avenue. 44-year-old Jeremy Criswell Houck, of Corning, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
According the report, Darrell Smith was driving a 2008 Chevy Silverado westbound on Highway 92 and Jeremy Criswell Houck was driving a 2003 International truck eastbound on Highway 92. For unknown reasons, Smith’s vehicle went into the eastbound lane and struck Houck’s vehicle head-on. Smith’s vehicle spun around into the westbound lane and came to rest facing eastbound. Houck’s vehicle jackknifed, coming to rest in the south ditch.
