(Logan) The Logan-Magnolia band has been selected to perform at the Iowa Bandmasters Association Conference.
Alex Albertson, 5-12 Instrumental Music Teacher, said the band started practicing in October to record their audition. The recording was submitted in January. Albertson said when the panel listens to the recording they do not know what school it is or what class they’re listening to. Logan-Magnolia was selected to represent all Class 1A bands as an example of what a 1A band at its best sounds like.
“That’s an enormous accomplishment for us, it has never happened in our school history and it is one of the first times that has happened for a 1A school in the southwest Iowa district since the 90’s I believe,” said Albertson.
The Logan-Magnolia band will perform at the Iowa Bandmasters Association Conference in Des Moines at 9:00 a.m., May 16th.
Albertson also announced that for the second consecutive year their Jazz Band qualified for the Iowa Jazz Championships. He said last year was the first time in 15-years that has happened for Logan-Magnolia.
“Last year we made our school’s history again with the first time that we placed; there are 15 Jazz Bands that are invited to perform at this contest and then they place the top 8. We earned fourth last year and we’re at least looking to get that again,” explained Albertson.
The Iowa Jazz Band Championships are Tuesday, April 7th.
“The community here has been so supportive and the kids in band work so hard,” said Albertson. “It’s been great being here and being a part of it. I’m so thankful for all of the hard work that everyone has put in and all of the dedication that it takes to get to this status.”
