(Red Oak) Montgomery County Sheriff Joe Sampson is retiring.
“It was after a lot of thoughtful and prayerful discussion we decided it was just time to end my career in law enforcement,” said Sheriff Sampson.
Sheriff Sampson said he started his career in 1973 as a military policeman, he did a tour with the military police at Fort Riley in the Army and after that he worked for the Police Department in the City of Griswold for 16 years. Sheriff Sampson has been with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office since 1992.
Sheriff Sampson said he has so many great memories from his career in law enforcement.
“Most of it’s the people. I think we’re blessed in southwest Iowa to have some of the best people in the world,” said Sheriff Sampson. “The people in this area have made the job much more bearable in tough situations.”
Sheriff Sampson’s last day on the job will be December 31st.
